Dr. Alison Grimaldi, Australia

  • Physiotherapist, researcher, and educator with 30+ years of clinical experience, specialising in the hip and pelvic region.
  • She leads the PhysioTec clinic in Brisbane and is a faculty member at the Australian College of Physiotherapists.

Before the seminar – participants are required to read selected research papers on the topic, complete tasks, and watch videos totaling approximately 5 hours.

A detailed review of the functional anatomy of the hip joint and pelvic musculature
Changes in muscle function associated with joint pathology and unloading
Implications for therapeutic exercise selection

Seminar content:

  1. Assessment of different aspects of muscle function for each muscle/synergist group around the hip joint—hip flexors, abductors, extensors, external rotators, and adductors—using standardised, objective measurements.

  2. Development of a therapeutic exercise programme targeting specific dysfunctions within overall muscle synergy, while considering:

  • Optimal effectiveness and load distribution across the entire movement (kinetic) chain

  • Effects on musculoskeletal tissue health, e.g., the underlying joint, local tendons, and nerves

  • The individual’s specific needs (morphology, pathologies)
